Dr. Diane Biray Gregorio: Mindfulness for Parents + Caregivers | Date/time TBD
Honoring AAPI Heritage Month and the resilience of generations of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities here in the NW — especially in light of the recent and ongoing acts of violence and attacks on Asian people throughout the country — we propose this program as a safer space for Asian descent youth and parents to name the truth of their survival, and reclaim narratives of resilience and thriving. In particular, we feel it is vital for Pasifika, Native Hawaiian, and Asian youth to access greater opportunities for empowered self-representation, to tell their own stories and push back against harmful stereotypes.
*As we grow our understanding of the need to disaggregate the AAPI umbrella, we invite everyone across the Asian diaspora, and Native Hawaiian and Pasifika communities to participate, feel welcomed, and continue to be part of our FOCS community. Just Speak: Parenting in the Movement
Join our community partners, Surge Reproductive Justice for Just Speak, a quarterly event for storytelling, and is community centered around reproductive justice.
From Surge Reproductive Justice:
Surge Reproductive Justice is a Black and queer-led organization rooted in the Black feminist tradition, and many of us are also parents! We know parenting is a JOURNEY, and we understand intimately the joys & struggles of raising children, within our own families and in community, in safe, healthy, loving & RADICAL ways.
As people in many movements for liberation, we want to hear from y’all:
How are you raising our next generation our intersectional, Black feminists?
How are you disrupting generational trauma with your parenting?
How are you creating family structures outside of the white, Western “nuclear” model?
How are you integrating your children into movement spaces, and what has your experience been?
What is your vision for our next generation - what does a liberated existence look like for the young people in your life?
Poetry, visual art, music, and more -- we’re looking for storytellers of all kinds! Compensation provided.
Thank you for our biggest #GiveBIG ever! Together we raised $8,649 towards free, BIPOC-led, peer support parenting groups. We are so grateful for all your support for us as an organization AND the care and love you give to each other in community.
