Pick FOCS as your choice for the BECU People Helping People Awards to help us win $40,000! Participate by November 29 at becu.org/awards
What are the People Helping People Awards?
BECU knows their members are dedicated to serving and supporting their communities. That’s why BECU created the People Helping People Awards. It’s a way for BECU to put their philanthropic dollars behind the causes their members care about. Every year, nominations are solicited from members, and the nonprofits are brought together to celebrate. It’s a way for all of us to recognize and support those who exemplify one of the most important principles BECU was founded on: helping others.
Who can participate?
Anyone with a valid email address! You do not have to be a BECU member. One vote per email address.

Naima (she/her) is an artist, educator, mentor, and community organizer within the Seattle community through her various organizations and projects especially when it comes to youth development using art as her platform. Starting at a young age, she started practicing art through writing poetry, songs, and paintings as a way of expression in telling her story. In 2015, she started her first business, Hennai4life, as a henna artist in order to make henna accessible and reteach traditions through educating other artists and community members about the cultural significance of henna. In 2016 she also started a blog page called, “Story of a Hijabi,” which is dedicated to changing narratives, honoring underrepresented voices and work, and learning life lessons through the power of storytelling.
During completing her double BA for Society, Ethics & Human Behavior and Health Studies at UW Bothell, she became a lead advocate for POC students rights through leading protests, creating event programming, and starting community groups. In her last academic year, she started a project called RISE UP — Resilience Involving Student Empowerment through Uplifting Poetry which later ended up being one of the two awards she received for UWB Outstanding Program of the Year 2019. Naima is currently completing her second year through the RVC’s Community Impact Fellowship. She has also recently started her second business, Story of an Artist, which focuses on the importance of storytelling through art.
